Creating a successful blog requires hard work and patience. No matter what people say creating an established blog and earning money from it is one of the most difficult thing to do. I know this because for the first 3 months of my blogging not even 200 people would visit my blog in the entire month. Well, back then I didn’t have any idea about how to write a quality content or seo techniques. I had no idea whether whatever I was doing was right or wrong.
Six months into blogging, I was gradually grasping the idea of how to produce quality content and how to write search engine friendly articles. Then about 3 months ago, to increase my exposure I started my backlink building campaign. I started to comment on commentluv enabled blogs to get good quality and natural backlinks. About a week ago, I decided to start writing guest posts to increase my audience. Then, I found out that Wade was offering others to guest post on his blog. I thought why not. Since, this is my first guest post , I want to thank Wade for this opportunity.
Now onto the main point, in this article I just want to highlight some factors which should be kept in mind before starting your own blog especially if it’s your first blog.
1. Read some blogs first
First of all, read some successful blogs from different niche to get an idea about how a blog should be. Take some time out to read some good articles. This will give you a fair idea about how to write quality content. For your convenience, I’m just going to point out some blogs which you should take a look at.
These are some of my favorite blogs which I visit regularly.
2. Choose your Niche
Before starting a blog, you should think about on what topic you want to create a blog. There are millions of blogs out there on the internet with hundreds of different niche. The best bet would be to choose a niche which you love e.g. technology, fashion, medicine, health, travel, lifestyle , finance etc. Choosing a niche is pretty critical because each niche has it’s own competition but on a different level. For example, the technology niche is extremely competitive and it would require extreme hard work and patience to rank among hundreds of successful blogs out there. But if you love a niche which is less competitive than the others then you can rank in the search engines in a much lesser time. Read some popular blogs on different niche to get a better understanding.
3. Content of Blog
This is the most crucial part of your blog. Your blog’s success will be determined by your content. You need to think about what people will love about your content that they will come flocking in great numbers. Blogging is all about being unique. You need to think creatively and intelligently about how you would write your posts. Your articles should appeal to the mass. Create a good quality content and you’re article could go viral in a matter of hours if you have the right resources.
4. Choosing your platform
Currently, there are two most popular blogging platforms in the world. One is Blogger and another is WordPress. If you want to create your first blog, then I would advise to go with blogger because it is much more easier and it is free. You can use their default blogspot domain and start posting right ahead. WordPress is not so easy as it requires money and also you have to set up your own hosting account and buy a domain. In blogger, everything will be done by Google and you wouldn’t have to worry about a thing. But the SEO is much better in wordpress because of all the plugins that are available. So, if you’ve been blogging for a few months, you can go for wordpress.
5. Marketing your Blog
Everything requires marketing and that applies to your blog as well. You have to expose your blog to as much audience as possible. It takes time and patience. Your blog won’t be popular overnight. After about two-three months of blogging start commenting on other blogs related to your niche. That way people will get to know you and your blog. Offer advice to your visitors who comment , that way you will gain the trust and loyalty of your readers. Start guest posting on reputable sites to gain exposure. That way more and more people will know about your blog and what you share.
The best way to do all this is to plan ahead before creating your blog. Set some goals for yourself like in three months , I will write 20 good quality articles and start commenting on other blogs. After six months, I will look for the opportunity of guest posting on other blogs. Also, do not forget to share your posts on the social media. For how you can increase your visitors from social media , you can consult Wade as he is an expert on this. You should chalk out your whole marketing strategy before publishing your blog.
Well that’s about everything. From my own experience, if you follow some of these basic techniques, then you will get a good start on your blogging career. You can hit the comment section below to share your views on these.
