How To Get Blog Traffic

How To Get Blog Traffic

The question of how to get blog traffic is one that I get asked a lot. This is the number one desire of all bloggers, old and new. Without traffic, there is no monetization, and if making money with your blog is what you are trying to do, and you’re not doing it, then you usually end up quitting. how to get blog traffic

So how to get blog traffic is an age old fight between the blog owner and the rest of the internet world. We are fighting for you. Yes, you. Since you are the person reading this post it means that temporarily, I have won a small victory in that large battle that continually ensues in the blogging industry.

But just how can you get that traffic and KEEP that traffic coming back?

Good question.

How To Get Blog Traffic Organically

Probably one of the most coveted ways on how to get blog traffic is the organic source. This basically means that your site gets listed and ranked in a major search engine like Google. This is a whole different battle, and to win, really win that fight, you achieve position one ranking on the first page of that desired search engine.

This is basically done through search engine optimization. You can have your main URL optimized for this, but that usually takes a long time. I don’t want to keep you from doing it, but it may take months before your site starts to show up in the results!

My recommendation is to optimize not only your main URL, but also optimize your particular post at that time. My friend Ehsan shows you how to get blog traffic using great SEO tips.

Getting your blog posts noticed

how to get blog trafficIf you plan to get blog traffic through search engine optimization terms, then it is imperative that you pick a keyword that you can use to get traffic rolling in. The best option is to use a keyword tool like Majestic SEO to help you figure out what people are searching for.

The best option while doing this is to pick out a long-tail keyword. That basically means a set of words that people are using in sentences in order to find what they are looking for.

For example, my keyword for this post is how to get blog traffic

Granted, the longer-tailed keywords don’t bring in as much traffic as other hot keywords do. But the idea is to get as specific as you can with it so you will attract more people to your blog.

If only 280 people a month are searching with the phrase “how to get blog traffic”, and I use a term like this in 100 posts, then that’s a lot of traffic!

Your keyword is set and the blog is written

You’re not done yet. In order for you to get traffic you have to have some links built to it from other authority sites. These come from web 2.0 sites that you should be a member of already.

I use Squidoo.com & Weebly.com. These are just two of the web 2.0 sites that I use to link back to important posts. There is also Blogger, WordPress.com, and a whole list of others.

How many do you really need? No one can really tell you, but the basis of registering for these sites is because you will want to write relevant content that links back to that blog post you just wrote.

Here’s where it gets sketchy. A lot of people only use these sites for their links only. This is not the right way to use it. Once you register, each link that you have pointing towards that blog post should have original quality content linking back to it. So, in other words, another blog post.

Building links to your particular post is important to get noticed and ranked organically. There are other ways to build links as well; guest posting and blog commenting are two great ways to create backlinks.

  1. Great tips here on getting blog traffic. I use social media and have quite a few friends in my niche that also use social media to get more traffic. More an more people are turning to social media, not just bloggers.

On the other hand, onpage optimization and site optimization are very important as you stated. It takes time but it will happen if you have optimized correctly.

    Thanks Wade,

  2. Thanks for linking to my post here, Wade. Also, thanks for sharing these tips – I knew most of them but I’m sure they will help any newbie blogger looking for more traffic :)

  3. Great tips! I was just thinking I needed to figure out Squidoo to help with my Web 2.0 sites. I keep reading about it.

  4. For me, the most difficult and I still don’t quite understand is to get traffic from “Organic Search”. Source of most of my post traffic is still by Referral. So, i hope can learn a lot from this blog

    have a terrific day.

    • Organic traffic is easy to understand. Look up first page of google options and keyword research. You must follow the rules as I showed you in this post, and then wait. Build backlinks to your post, and it will come.

  5. Hey Wade,
    How are you this weekend?
Thanks for your tips man. I just grabbed a free copy of your ebook and will be going through it this weekend. Meanwhile, As you mentioned, traffic to ones blog is key in generating income. Search engine and referral traffic are both important. While SE traffic may take time to start pouring in, referral traffic (social media, articles, banners, etc) is almost instant and results can be pretty quick.

No traffic = dead blog ;)

  6. If you have attractive content on your blog for your readers then i don’t think so you will need to take it seriously for that you will just need to maintain quality of your content in place of quantity and one more thing which you should always keep in your mind niche of your readers it will help lot to improve traffic on your blog itself when you will put these two options with right steps on your blog.

  7. If you have got good content and want traffic from any source, then having your site inadvertantly added to a “dofollow” blog commenters list is a great and sure fire way to drive more traffic, partiularly if you get added to one of the Higher ranking lists. It’s not the link juice that will drive the traffic- the list will have no relevance to your site at all- it’s the fact that so many webmasters use the Dofollow comment lists to try and find links to their own sites. If you don’t add youself to one of these lists but have a dofollow blog and one day wake up to a sudden surge in traffic with a sudden increase in “comment spam” it’s a sure fire bet that you’ve been added to one of these lists. However, if it’s pageviews you’re after, this is a good place to start….

  8. Extremely useful information here. I believe that the combination of SEO and Social Media are nearly a guarantee of success. BUT… they must be approached with patience and persistence. Of course, they will work only if the content on your blog is rich and valuable. Search engines are getting smarter and smarter at recognizing real value.

  9. Yes, I understand that content is king so that’s why SE loves a fresh website that always update everyday and so the reader who loves fresh content to read regularly. But, there is one question that really make me curious about, is Micro Niche sites dead these days? because what I know is MicroNiche Site only have a few content on their website.
