Back in 2009 I was busy taking photos and posting on Flickr. I decided to start a Twitter account for my photography. I came up with a great name and started following other photographers. Most of them followed me back. Every time I posted a photo to Flickr I would send the link over to Twitter. Something amazing happened. The amount of times my photo was being seen increased. There was something to Twitter and I was glad I had figured it out.
When I started to really get into blogging later that year I knew I would have to start a Twitter account to go along with it. Since then
my Twitter account has done great things for me. I have been able to make online friends, meet other bloggers, grow my down-line for my Scentsy business, been asked to review products for my blog and generate traffic to my blog posts. Twitter has been great for me and my blogs.
It is so important as a blogger to get my posts out into the world. Twitter is a great way to do that. Social media is a great way to connect with other people. I have come across a few blogs that don’t use social media and they are happy with that. They have their own group of loyal followers and are content with that. I would not be. I want to be able to share my work with a lot of different people. Social media is the best way to do this. And best of all, it is pretty easy.
It doesn’t take much to set up a Twitter account, find other people to follow and start posting. Within a few weeks, or even days, you will be able to see how social media will work for you. I believe content is really important but right behind that is social media. You need to be seen.
After you get going on Twitter you will want to make sure you sign up for other social media sites. I would recommend starting a Facebook page for your blog. Invite all of your friends and ask them to invite their friends. Start posting regularly on there. Ask questions, share photos and your blog posts. You probably want to get established on Google+ as well. This is one of the newest social media sites but well worth your time. It is easy to interact with others and find people to put in what they call circles. You can easily sort people from how you know them. You can easily chose who to post what to. If you are a photographer who likes to knit you can create different circles for other photographers and knitters that you find. I just love that about Google+. They have also recently started Communities which is a great way to interact with others and make new friends. If you don’t see a community that works with you, you can start your own.
Social media is so important. Make sure you take the time to get involved on the different social media platforms that are out there. They will only help you grow your blog or website.

If it weren’t for social media, a lot of us wouldn’t have jobs! Social media plays a more important role than even SEO in my opinion because you have to always cater to the user.

Julie,
I love to read real stories of people doing things that benefit them. It makes me feel like that cliche “if he can do it so can I”. And that is how I feel about this post.
Twitter is an amazing tool. And so easy, I always wondered why people do not use it. I think they are totally missing out on opportunities. For instance, last year there was contest held to win a SF Giants shirt, all you had to do was tweet a hashtag and hope to win. I tweeted the heck out of that hashtag and won a shirt! I know that doesn’t sound like much, but I LOVE the SF Giants. That whole experience taught me that Twitter is great for marketing and for fans or readers.
